6th class Learning support teacher: Miss Kirwan
A massive hello to all of my lovely students. I miss all of you and I hope that you and your families are keeping well. The following is a list of suggestions for my learning support pupils to work on while at home. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the following email: danelle.kirwan@cmsenior.com
Stay safe and well! (:
6th class literacy group- Continue to read as often and as much as possible. You should have your library books or class books. Also If you would like to access suitable free online books set up an account with World Book Online –all students in Ireland have open and free home access to World Book Online
If you have your read at home please continue to read one per day and to answer the questions if possible in full sentences, with capitals and full stops. Alternatively please log onto my.cjfallon.ie and create a free student account. This website is free while the pupils are at home during the forced school closure. These pupils can use Read at Home 3 -6 . (Parents choose which level you think is most suitable for your child). You can access an online copy for free by logging onto mj.cjfallon.ie and then go into Resources and choose Primary/subject: English /Series : Read at home/Title: Read at home 3/or Read at Home 4-6.
Choose a song and write out the lyrics. Try to identify as many similes as you can within the lyrics. Listen to your parents or family members and try to identify any similes that they use in conversation and write them down. Try to come up with your own.
Keep a word dictionary- while reading your novels or other stories, write down any words that you find difficult. Look up their meaning and create at least 1 sentence using each word.
Each week pick 10 tricky words. Every day write, check, rewrite. At the end of the week ask your parents or family members to quiz you like a spelling B. Choose a few words for your parents or family members to learn and have a bit of healthy competition.
Keep a diary for each day. What did you do, how did you manage to fill your time, did you miss your school classmates and teachers? (:
If you have access to board games like 30 seconds, Balderdash, scrabble, scattergories, trivial pursuit, Charades, memory or headbandz play them. Alternatively, make up a play or puppet show script and present it to your family or video it and send it to me. I would love to see them, with your parents permission of course.
Choose a book and read to a younger sibling if you have one. Discuss it with them and ask them about their favourite characters and what they like or didn’t like about the story. What would they change if they could? Try and create an alternate ending.
6th class Maths Group-
Pupils who attend my 6th class maths class shouldplease log onto my.cjfallon.ie and create a free student account. This website is free while the pupils are at home during the forced school closure. These pupils can use Busy at maths 6. You can access an online copy for free by logging onto mj.cjfallon.ie and then go into Resources and choose Primary/subject: Maths /Series : Busy at Maths /Title: Busy at maths 6/and Busy at maths 6 shadow book.
Continue using mathletics as often as possible, also Topmarks or manga high if you have access. Practice your times tables as often as possible. I am hoping you will all have them memorised! If you have a deck of cards play snap, or switch.
Measure the perimeter and area of items in your house. The bedroom, livingroom, hallway, garden. Ask to help cook and measure food in the kitchen if possible. Play card games, and practice telling the time using an analogue clock, digital, and 24 hour. Practice using time phrases, like noon, quarter to, quarter past, half, and ten to.
If you have a younger sibling, offer to help set up a store or shop and manage the prices. Also you can find any old receipts and try and tally up how much was spent. Go online to find a catalogue, agos, or smyths. Pretend you have 300 euro to spend on whatever you like. Now apply a 10%, or 20% discount and see what else you can buy.
Please remember these are all suggestions and no one will be exected to have all of this completed when returning to class.
